Paje and Jambiani are two of the best-known areas on Zanzibar's southeast coast. They share the same wide tidal landscape, pale sand and Indian Ocean color, but the feeling can be different. Knowing the difference helps visitors choose the right pace.

Paje has more movement

Paje is known for kitesurfing, beach cafes, schools, shops and a livelier traveler scene. It is a good place to watch the lagoon fill with color when the wind is right, even if you are not taking a lesson yourself.

Use the tide wisely

Low tide is excellent for walking and photography. High tide is often better for swimming. Before planning beach time, a boat trip or a kitesurfing lesson, check tide and wind conditions locally.
